PAPA & AppAPA 2nd Annual Spring CME Symposium

This Approach to the Patient with Low Back Pain lecture aims to guide providers through the assessment and management of adult patients who present with low back pain. By the end of the lecture, and with use of PowerPoint instruction and case study examples, participants should be able to: create a differential diagnosis for low back pain (LBP), list five alarm signs or symptoms related to LBP, know which diagnostic tools are appropriate in the work up of LBP, and describe evaluation and/or initial management of: herniated disc, muscle strain, compression fracture, epidural abscess, multiple myeloma, spinal stenosis, and cauda equina syndrome.

The goal of this lecture is to demonstrate the utility of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in the management of patients living with diabetes mellitus.  John will discuss limitations of Hemoglobin A1C and self monitoring blood glucose in assessing glycemic control while providing an introduction to CGM and the concepts of glucose management indicator, time in range, and time below target.  Attendees will learn about currently available CGM systems and how to interpret CGM data to make meaningful changes in a patient’s diabetes treatment plan.  In addition, John will discuss insurance coverage for CGM systems in North Carolina including Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial plans and how to bill for CGM data interpretation.
