Katharine, or Kitty, might be called a legacy PA. She graduated in 1980 and enjoyed thirty years in clinical and teaching settings before serving as the first PA employed as staff at the Medical Board where she has served for ten years.  A fierce patient and PA advocate, Kitty has been at the forefront of the regulatory efforts to improve opioid prescribing during the country’s opioid epidemic.  She has just become a grandma for the sixth time and is so grateful to her family and PA colleagues for an incredible career alongside exceptional role models.  Kitty will discuss the opioid issues from the perspective of what is found when our state’s licensing board gets involved.

This lecture will define burnout and offer research on how this affects patient care and the provider. To bring these points home, Meg Leddy tells a personal story of her burnout. She then goes into research-based techniques that help rewire the brain to start forming a foundation of wellbeing. Meg Leddy shares how to integrate small changes into the lifestyle of a busy PA. Her hope is that every person who watches this lecture leaves with a better understanding of burnout and a plan for integrating one small change in their day to start building their foundation of wellbeing.
